Creating Space for

Community & Creativity

Prairie Fibre Festival Vision

From its inception in 2017, the vision of the festival has been to have a place in Central Alberta where fibre enthusiasts from all walks of life could gather together. We wanted a place where vendors and artists could showcase their expertise, wares and art  and attendees could find new treasures to add to their craft and learn new skills in the fibre art they pursue. We also wanted to have a place to gather to have conversations, make connections and of course, craft together, creating a community of fibre enthusiasts that encourage one another and squeal with delight over various projects, plans and purchases!

This year, 2025, we are adding an additional festival! With the overwhelming success of our Lacombe festival we've been bursting at the seams for quite some time.  This additional festival date allows us to bring what we know and love about our Lacombe festival to the town of Olds!  With even more variety of the best fibre vendors and artists.

We hope you feel welcome to our flock and that you feel the joy and connection of our community.

Meet the Organizer

Hi, my name is Lori Desrosiers and I facilitate the organization of the festival each year along with a lot of help from the volunteers, vendors and attendees. The festival is my favourite day of the year because I get to meet up with all of you who love the fibre arts as much as I do!  I curate a variety of fibre artists that come and provide us all with knowledge, yummy yarn, spinning and weaving fibre, tools and equipment as well as even art itself!

Recently retired from homeschooling my kids, the festival is now my hobby. It brings all the things I value together, the fibre arts obviously but I also I love to plan and organize and above all have fun! I also value lifelong learning which I think the fibre arts definitely lends itself to that, so many avenues of crafts and so much learning to be had within each strand. The other thing I value is community, I call them my fibre friends and I can’t imagine my life without my flock and my goal is that you find your flock that encourages your fibre dreams and I hope that the festival is a big part of that flock.

Meet the Mascots

Goldy Flocks

Overseer of all things Prairie and she has a tendency to leak out secrets while Lori is on holidays or preoccupied.  She is also the host of our Friday evening Social - Goldy's Gathering at the Lacombe festival.

Lorenzo the Llama

Lorenzo couldn't let Goldy have all the fun and he LOVES to hang with his Fibre Friends in Lorenzo's Lounge upstairs at the Lacombe festival.  He also loves to learn so he's always in search for instructors for new classes. His vibe is chill and he loves when someone crafts him a new stylish accessory, he is a fashionista at heart.

Opal The Baby Goat

Our newest addition to the Prairie family! Opal is excited to host our new festival in Olds. She's playful, silly and likes to have FUN something her and Lori have in common! However she is young so requires "supervision" or else she might escape or get into some other trouble. She keeps Goldy and the whole Prairie Fibre Festival team hopping!
